THE PATHOLOGY OF THE GAZE IN PANOPTICAL SOCIETY

Abstract
The leading thread of this work represents an investigation into the relations that are primarily formed between the instances of knowledge, power, and gaze. These instances are recognized as some of the constituent parts of the Occidental way of thinking and its culture. The text shows that it is possible to form a fundamentally different way of social organizing if the stale mechanisms of despotic regimes of governing and all-encompassing hierarchization are deconstructed in a particular manner. The model of the ’panopticon’, taken as one of the primary blueprints for creating the institutions such as correctional facilities, hospitals, mental asylums, schools, etc., can be shown to be replaceable if the axis of knowledge and power is recognized as the one that does not necessarily lead to the repressive modes of manifesting.
