Abstract

In the second half of the 19th century, during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, few educators, teachers or professors from Vojvodina wrote down their observations about deviant and unsuitable education  systems that had a degrading social morality for their ultimate, negative outcome. One of the few who dared to do so was the teacher Ferenc Jung, who summarized his experiences and observations in this field in a book published in Sombor in 1888 in Hungarian (Jung Ferenc: A téves nevelési rendszerek áldozatai vagy a társadalmi erkölcs hanyatlásának okai. Rajzok a nevelészet köréből. Oblát Károly könyvnyomdája, Zombor, 1888. 128. p)  intended for parents as a practical guide for raising children and how to recognize the wrong methods of upbringing, giving them guidelines for proper educational principles. Jung's work sees the negativity and deviance of certain wrong systems of education of his time, giving an understandable overview of how, by what characteristics to recognize them, so that they could overcome them in everyday practice. In his book, Jung elaborated and pointed out a dozen different negative, inadequate principles of education, which harmed the individual and society as a whole. He blamed the wrong upbringing on the family, that is, the parents and not on the school and the school system, specifically pointing out the deformities of the then "modern life", civic customary culture, more precisely the negativities that are reflected in the domain of upbringing.


The paper analyzes the models of family educational models in Vojvodina, which Ferenc Jung described in his book, with an emphasis on inadequate and wrong models for raising children, as well as on his practical advice in the field of education and upbringing. The main goal of our research is to identify Jung's  negative methods of educating his time and the socio-historical context in which these methods originated. The work of Ferenc Jung is certainly a discovery for pedagogy, since it is not recorded in any bibliography, and it is a real rarity because for the first time this unknown work is analyzed in detail. It represents a strong critique of the practice of education in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, at the end of the 19th century, and is therefore a very interesting source of information for the history of pedagogical sciences in this area.
