ADJECTIVES IN SERBIAN DICTIONARY OF RECENT ANGLICISMS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article deals with 241 adjectival anglicisms excerpted from A Serbian Dictionary of Recent Anglicisms. The analysis has shown that the adjectives are comprised of two groups: indeclinable ones (111), i.e. those that underwent so-called primary morphological adaptation (eg. begi [< baggy], bejzik [< basic], beking [< baking], vejerles [< wireless], vedži [< veggie/vegie]) and declinable ones, that had been subjected to the secondary morphological adaptation. The members of latter group are predominantly derived from Serbian nominal anglicisms and relate to entities denoted by them (eg. internetski [< internet], japijevski [< japi]). The sheer number of excerpted adjectives, especially in comparison with their counterparts given in A Dictionary of Recent Anglicisms, implies that there is a steady rise of such adjectives in modern Serbian language, which will put to the challenge some key principles of Serbian grammar.
