DISPUTES OVER THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF VOJVODINA (1964-1968)

Abstract

During the economic and political crises which started to spread in the socialist Yugoslavia,at the beginning of the sixties, disputes occurred between the communist leaderships of the Republicof Serbia and Autonomous province of Vojvodina. The reason for this was the state ofeconomy of Vojvodina. In 1965, great economic reform was introduced in Yugoslavija, whichcreated economic wholes by merging several municipalities. This caused several problems, suchas jealousy between economic centres, particulary in Vojvodina. As the result of the well-organizedaction taken by the highest party forums in the province, Novi Sad prospered as the capital ofVojvodina – as it could be seen from the minutes of the party meetings. According to the so farunpublished archive documentation, those events remained hidden from the public eye.
